Greetings to all Flotilla 3-9 members.

Thanks for electing me  as your Flotilla Vice Commander for 2009. During the last 20 years I have achieved many offices in the Auxiliary but this is the first time I have been a Flotilla Vice Commander. A step backwards, NO DEFINITELY NOT. I am looking forward to actively participating in Flotilla activities in the coming year and being a part the leadership staff in our local area. There are many things left to be accomplished in the future. My participation on National Staff and while working full time at the Auxiliary Center in Crestwood, MO. has given me an insiders view as to what can be accomplished if everyone becomes an active member of our elite organization.

Welcome to the new members that joined our Flotilla during 2008. Many have taken an active and important role in helping to make our Flotilla into an active organization. I can remember when I joined, Flotilla 3-8 was the most active Flotilla in Division 3. Lets try that scenario again.

As we enter a new year, let us remember our obligations to the Coast Guard and to our Flotilla. Three fourths of our members have not been to a meeting or been active in any of our programs for a number of years. There is more to joining the Auxiliary than just a financial obligation. There are other alternatives that you can do to support the Auxiliary than being an inactive member of the Flotilla. Please contact either the Flotilla Commander or me to see how you can provide your services. Each member, no matter how little time, effort or where you live, can become a vital part of the Auxilliary.

One award, that we may never obtain as a Flotilla, requires that you have 10 vessel safety checks for each member an at least half of our membership attend all meetings. Are you doing your part to help us meet these qualifications? How many times during 2008 did you volunteer your services? It takes everyone's participation to make a successful organization.

Have you ever been to a Division meeting, District Conference or National Conference? All members are encouraged to attend all of these events. There is more to the Auxiliary than at the Flotilla level. You can play an important role! Are you aware of the changes in the titles of our offices that will take place in 2009? Attend a Flotilla meeting.

During the past few years we have lost many members who have contributed many services to the Coast Guard. Those members who have "Crossed the Bar" spent their best hours giving back to their country the thanks for the freedom that we are so proud to have. To them goes a belated THANK YOU.

Have a great 2009 and HELP!
